Story attached by the author to this sound recording:In 1850, the glacier tongue of the Schlatenkees extended all the way into the Gschlösstal. Due to significant climate change, the tongue has now completely retreated.
This audio recording was made at the lower glacier field of the Schlatenkees. Here, it becomes evident how sensitive the glacier is to changing climatic conditions. The recording captures the powerful flow of water emerging from the glacier – a striking testament to the melting ice.
It is a unique moment to witness the eternal ice up close. However, the ongoing melt causes the ice to crack, and it will not be long before the glacier disappears entirely.
