Story attached by the author to this sound recording:During a hike on Montorfano Mountain in Verbania, Italy, we had an extraordinary encounter with an impressively large hoverfly resembling a wasp. Amid many butterflies and other flying insects, this fly stood out with its distinctive flight pattern and loud buzzing.
At first, we mistook it for a giant wasp, but its lightning-fast and agile movements made us reconsider. After several attempts and much patience, we finally managed to position the fly perfectly for a recording.
Capturing this moment was challenging, as the fly's zigzag movements quickly carried it meters away. However, by carefully approaching while it hovered over flowers, we succeeded in creating this unique sound recording up close.
